| Nanotech Semiconductor Announces new Gigabit Transimpedance Amplifier IC |

New pure-CMOS TIA is latest in high-volume, low-cost line-up

Bristol, England, March 19th 2007 – Nanotech Semiconductor Limited (“Nanotech”), a fabless IC company specializing in advanced Analog & Mixed-Signal ICs for fiber based Communications applications, today announced the next IC in it’s ultra-low-cost TIA range.
The NT20016 is a Transimpedance Amplifier designed to support 1 and 1.25Gbps applications over optical fiber. It completes the line up of NT20067 for 155Mbps applications, and NT20089 for 622Mbps applications, which were released to production at the end of 2006. All 3 ICs are manufactured in standard 0.25u ‘logic’ CMOS, on 8” wafers, in order to support these high volume, but price sensitive markets. Despite the low cost, Sensitivity of typically –29dBm, at only 25mA consumption, amply caters for all mainstream markets and yields yet another class-leading price/performance ratio IC.
All of the ICs support both 3.3v, and 5v ‘legacy’ markets, and are pin-compatible with previous solutions, while on-chip filtering permits Bill-of-Materials cost reduction.
Samples will be available in April, and production ramp-up is expected by June.
Christian Rookes, Business Development Manager, added: “Being able to operate from 3v up to 5.5v means that OEMs now only need to stock one part for both new and legacy applications, enabling lower piece part and inventory costs – a valuable simplification for customers”
Gary Steele, CEO, commented: “Our design team set the standard for these kinds of ICs in the late 90s, and those ICs are still shipping today. Now, nearly a decade later, the same team have been able to push the state-of-the art materially further.” Looking further ahead he added “The NT20016 will cover 90% or so of current applications, but there is a niche in higher-cost, ultra high sensitivity applications, currently filled by SiGe BiCMOS solutions. Simulations show we can now achieve this level of performance in logic CMOS. Watch this space.”
